Felidae, as many other quadrupeds (e.g., horses, greyhounds,...) are capable of highly energy efficient and fast run.


Many studies indicate that this capability is due to their flexible backbone, that is used as a spring to store energy that would be otherwise wasted to release during the gait cycle when high power is needed to begin the next cycle.
